The Ruins
Luke and I embarked on a four-hour journey to The Ruins, fueled by excitement and visions of discovering gold sovereigns. Setting out at 3:30 am for an early start, our anticipation surpassed the average night's sleep.
Meeting the landowner, we quickly identified remnants of windows and crockery on the surface, hinting at the site's history. With the agreement that all finds belonged to the landowner, our joy stemmed from the privilege of exploring this remarkable location.
While coin finds were modest, an array of buckles hinted at the ruins possible historical use. Amid the search, Luke unearthed a pristine brass cricket belt buckle, celebrating its remarkable condition. Excitement peaked as he later discovered a brass barrel tap, marking a double win for his bucket list.
Exploring the slope, I found candlesticks, buckles, and a rare 1858 Professor Holloway token in impeccable condition. Moving from the ruins, the debris field lessened, but quality finds persisted on the downward slope, including coins and buckles in great condition. The day concluded with plans to revisit the site, eager to uncover more mysteries on our next adventure.
