Detained By Police
After a 90-minute drive to Sydney's Western suburbs, we found ourselves in Emu Plains at the foothills of the Blue Mountains, having struck out on notable finds in three previous locations. Opting to try our luck in St Marys, our initial attempt proved unproductive, leading us to decide on one last change of location.
Arriving at the final venue, Luke made a phone call while I unpacked the car under a bright light. A sudden buzzing and flashing drew my attention to a branch rubbing against overhead powerlines, creating a surprising disturbance that seemed to go unnoticed by locals.
Luke, done with his call, joined me as we inspected the peculiar scene. Suddenly, three policemen emerged from the darkness, surrounding us. Unsure of their motive, I directed their attention to the powerline, but they were more interested in us, leading to an inquiry about our presence. After a brief explanation, our identification was checked, and two additional officers arrived on foot, making a total of five.
The female officer explained that our behavior had been reported as suspicious, inspecting our car contents and questioning our reasons for being out late. Undeterred, we shared our plan to metal detect in the park. When asked if we were looking for jewellery, we clarified we were searching for coins. In response, the officers exchanged awkward glances, shrugged, and walked off into the night, leaving us to continue our adventure.
